How I like to work:
Concepts first
I'm a huge fan of OOUX. It forces you to look at objects and relationships before you even start on designs or words. By defining the object models, you end up building something that makes sense and is useful, not just pretty.
Clear goals, clear opinions
I like to start every project by ensuring we're extra clear on what our goals are. From there, I form opinions about how we should achieve those goals. Those opinions are turned into tenets, which are used to guide decisions.
Make every word earn its way onto the page
We aren't writing novels here. When writing content for a product, I focus on keeping things clear, concise, and human. If I'm not nailing those three things, the rest doesn't matter.
Ask all the questions
Maybe it's a leftover from client presentations in advertising, but I think any concept or design I move forward with should be bulletproof. I will ask all the questions I can think of to make sure we have good answers.
How I like to not work:
Working out/training is a huge part of my life. My whole garage is a full gym.
I ran my first (probably only) ultramarathon in 2022.
Trail running > road running
I've been climbing (mostly bouldering) for almost 15 years.
Bikes? Bikes. Mostly gravel.
We have the Peloton bike and tread, and actually use them both frequently.
I like music.
You know when people say "oh I listen to everything" and then you put on Cannibal Corpse and they're like "ew turn this shit off". That's not me. I like a lot of different types of music.
Here's a playlist with a few things I like.
Other things in my life:
My wife and I got married in Las Vegas, by Elvis, in 2009.
I have a daughter who's named after a metal song.
We have two dogs and a cat, all with food names: Biscuit, Zucchini, and Apple Fritter.
I'm a huge hockey fan. I've been watching the Dallas Stars since they moved to Dallas in 1993. I'm a Seattle Kraken season ticket holder.
Don't ask me about Content Design books. When I read, it's usually sci-fi or thrillers.
I have a lot of tattoos. Not all of them have meaning.
